MCPF Sarawak to set up branches in 27 police districts HQ

SIBU: Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation ( MCPF) plans to set up branches at all the 27 police district headquarte­rs in the state.

MCPF Sarawak chairman Dr Annuar Rapaee says the move is to help curb crimes in the state.

Speaking at a security and safety briefing session at the Civic Centre here Wednesday night, Dr Annuar, who is also the Assistant Minister for Science Research and Biotechnol­ogy, said the main role of MCPF was to instill greater level of awareness among members of the public that crime prevention was a joint responsibi­lity of everyone.

The function was jointly organised by the State Safety Unit (Chief Minister Department), National Unity and Integratio­n Department Sarawak, the Police, National Anti-Drugs Agency and the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation.

Sarawak State Safety Unit deputy director Dato Clarence Rorote Sagon and National Unity and Integratio­n Department Sarawak deputy director Esther Dingkawan were also present.

Dr Annuar also invited all neighbourh­ood committees in the state to work closely with MCPF Sarawak in curbing crimes.

He said neighbourh­ood committees should continue with their patrols of their neighbourh­ood under their Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS).

Earlier, Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee in his welcoming speech said there were 935 neighbourh­ood committees in Sarawak todate.
