MIRI: A 51-year- old man who was severely injured after he was allegedly beaten by another man on Sunday succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit ( ICU) in Miri Hospital yesterday.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the main suspect’s house in Kampung Pasir in Lutong.

It is understood that prior to the incident, the victim was drinking alcohol with the main suspect at his house.

Not long after that, the suspect was believed to have struck the victim’s head using an iron object.

However, it is not known what triggered the incident.

Miri police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat in a statement yesterday confirmed that a report has been lodged by the victim’s daughter.

The police have arrested three men aged 27 to 56 to facilitate investigations.

The third suspect, who is believed to be the main suspect, was arrested yesterday afternoon.

“The police initially investigated the case under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing hurt but it was later reclassified under Section 302 of the same code for murder,” Khoo said.
