TUMPAT: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry ( MDTCC) and the Pengkalan Kubor- based Marine Operations Force ( MOF) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) to tighten up the standard operating procedures ( SOP) during joint operations.

MDTCC secretary- general Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh said this was to curb the smuggling activities of subsidised controlled items along the MalaysiaThailand border in Kelantan.

He said the MoU also served to facilitate the handing over of arrest cases by the MOF which came under the Supply Control Act 1961, as well as the application of logistic facilities and security assistance by MDTCC to the MOF during operations.

“In 2015, a workshop was held in Penang to study and develop the joint- operation SOP between MDTCC and MOF.

“Subsequently, the MDTCC Enforcement Division conducted a field training involving officers from both the MOF and ministry through a strategic course in Tawau, Sabah and Ayer Keroh, Melaka,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after witnessing the signing of the National Blue Ocean Strategy ( NBOS) SOP MoU between the MOF and MDTCC Enforcement Division, here yesterday.

The MoU was signed by the Royal Malaysia Police Security and Public Order Department director ( Movement), Datuk Azizan Abd Aziz and MDTCC Enforcement directorgeneral, Datuk Mohd Roslan Mahayudin.

Commenting further, Jamil said both parties could galvanise their manpower in combatting embezzlement and the leakage of subsidised controlled items via the implementation of the NBOS. — Bernama
