Malaysian lawn bowlers in world cup semi-finals

KUALALUMPU­R: TwoMalaysi­an lawn bowlers – Soufi Rusli and veteran Nor Hashimah Ismail – put up a sizzling performanc­e to move into the semi-finals of the 2017 World Cup Singles Championsh­ips held at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation­al Club in New South Wales, Australia yesterday.

Nor Hashimah, 45, defeated Ronalyn Greenlees of the Philippine­s 10- 6, 8-5 in the women’s play- off to setup up a last four meeting against New Zealand’s Jo Edwards on Tuesday, according to World Bowls website; www. worldbowls.com.

Edwards, a four-time world champion, advanced straight to the semi-finals after going to the top of the final standings in the preliminar­y round.

Soufi, on the other hand, received stiff competitio­n from Pierre Breitenbac­h from South Africa before registerin­g a 3-12, 114, 3-1 victory in the men’s singles playoff.

He is slated to meet Ali Forsyth of New Zealand in the semi-finals on Tuesday as the latter moved straight to the last four after finishing at the top in the preliminar­y round. — Bernama
