Third suspect remanded in Kampung Pasir murder case

MIRI: The third suspect in the murder of a 52-year- old man in Kampung Pasir in Lutong on Sunday was yesterday remanded for seven days to facilitate investigat­ion.

Deputy Registrar Mohd Hafizi Abdul Halim issued the remand order on the suspect, 29, following an applicatio­n by investigat­ing officer, ASP Zainan Azili Abdul Latiff.

On Sunday, the victim’s daughter lodged a police report after receiving a call from her cousin, informing that her father was lying unconsciou­s at the cousin’s house in Kampung Pasir.

In his remand applicatio­n, Zainan said on March 19, a police report was lodged at Lutong Police Station by the victim’s daughter, 24.

In her report, the daughter claimed that at about 4.30pm on March 19, she received a call from her cousin informing that her father had fallen unconsciou­s at her house.

Before losing consciousn­ess, her father had told her cousin that he had been bludgeoned by a man called ‘James’.

The victim’s family sent the victim to Miri Hospital where he was identified by doctors as Jaya Nyandang, 51, suffering from leftsided skull fracture and internal bleeding in the brain.

Based on informatio­n received, the suspect was arrested in a house at Tudan Desaras here at about 12.30pm on March 20. His remand will expire on March 28.

Zainan said there were three suspects in the case - two remanded earlier, aged 27 and 55, being the younger brother and father of the 29-year- old suspect. The two were arrested on the night of March 19, and remanded for four days from March 20 to facilitate investigat­ion into the case which comes under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

However on March 20, the victim who had been in a coma since Sunday ( March 19) succumbed to his injuries at about 2.41pm, prompting police to reclassify the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
