Treat patients like your own family members, doctors told

KUCHING: Healthcare and medical practitioners in the state are reminded to treat patients like their own family members as a gesture of their care and concern.

The services provided must also be in line with the Ministry of Health’s motto ‘ To Cure Sometimes, To Relieve Often, To Comfort Always’.

Speaking at the presentation of the 2016 Excellent Service Award (APC) here yesterday, state Health Dept director Dr Jamilah Hashim said the award would hopefully drive the recipients to improve their performance for the good of healthcare services in Sarawak.

“I also hope to see industry players to be more competitive in order to improve their quality of service and productivity,” said Dr Jamilah prior to presenting the awards to 832 recipients in the state’s southern region at Dewan Kompleks Islam here.

She added the award was an inspiration to others in the civil service to meet their organisational goal.

Dr Jamilah also revealed that activities of the State Health Department had to be prioritised in tandem with the 11th Malaysia Plan and the department’s strategic planning.

She said this was more so due to 16.4 per cent cut to the Ministry of Health’s ‘development budget’ from RM1.6 billion in 2016 to RM1.338 billion in 2017 which was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during the tabling of the 2017 National Budget in Oct last year.

“This year, the state Health Department will only receive RM3.6 million from the development budget. Measures to control frugal spending in 2016 will be continued in 2017 by taking the creative and innovative approach,” said Dr Jamilah.

She added that the ministry had come up with a five-year Action Plan ( 2016 to 2020) to strengthen the healthcare Malaysia.

State Federal Secretary Datuk Zuki Ali was also present at the function.

In his speech, he called upon every member of the civil service to be sensitive and be able to meet the people’s expectations by providing excellent and quality services.

“Each ministry and department must coordinate and work with each other. Do not work within your own silo but work together to bring greater benefit to the general public,” he said. services in
