Son rumoured to take over from Ahmad Lai in Sibuti this GE14

-

MIRI: The eldest son of Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang is rumoured to defend the seat in the coming 14th general election.

A source said Nazri was likely to be fielded in Sibuti although Ahmad Lai his father, during an interview with The Borneo Post in December last year, said he would defend the seat.

In the interview, Ahmad Lai, however, acknowledged that the decision rested with the late Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem as then chairman of the state Barisan Nasional ( BN).

He also said although the general election was not due until 2018, the Sibuti parliamentary election machinery was always ready.

According to the source again, Ahmad Lai’s service was still needed in the constituency, but if he really wanted to step down, the best candidate to replace him would be Nazri.

Nazri, 41, has been his father’s special aide since 2009 and has been actively involved in his (father’s) functions and campaigns.

Nazri is an exco member of Sarawak Saberkas and is also known to the people in Sibuti constituency.

He was recently elected as chairman of SM Sains Miri Parent-Teacher Association.

The sourse said Nazri certainly had big shoes to fill if he’s picked to defend the seat and to continue his father’s legacy and efforts in leading the people of Sibuti constituency.

Ahmad Lai retained the Sibuti parliamentary seat in a big win against Robby @ Muhammad Zaid Tandang of PAS during the last general election. He obtained 13,348 votes while Robby garnered 7,282 votes.
