MIRI: A total of 13 projects requested last year under the Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) worth up to RM2.7 million for Piasau constituency will be implemented this year.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting disclosed this during a site inspection visit on three of the 13 proposed projects on Monday.

“These projects have been proposed to the state government and have already been approved. The next step is to engage with the city council ( Miri City Council)’s engineering section to study and implement them. We are expecting the projects to run according to schedule with much monitoring required,” he said.

“As for 2017, I have submitted proposals for 22 RTP projects, mostly for Piasau constituency and part of Pujut area. We are looking at areas where they are necessary and according to the feedback from public,” he said, adding that among the areas is the 300m stretch from Jalan Jee Foh Utama to Jalan Jee Foh 9 that needs to be widened and provided with an extra lane to smoothen the traffic flow.

Ting added that the project is estimated to cost RM250,000 and the engineering section of MCC – as the implementing agency – would need to make a study on it first.

He also said the drainage at the whole stretch of North Yu Seng Road would be cleared of blockage.

Meanwhile, Kampung Lereng Bukit headman Penghulu Samad requested for the road to Tabika Permata Kemas, which is presently tar- sealed, to be resurfaced with cement.

“We are considering the change because of the children. During hot weather, the tar- sealed road will release a toxic odour which could be hazardous to the children.”

At the same time, residents of the village who live up the hill hoped that MCC would help repair their damaged road and build proper drains.

“After inspecting the area, I found that the condition is disheartening. We and the city council will study the project and hopefully, everything could be done as soon as possible,” Ting told reporters.
