Rural SMK Tinjar scores 92.7 pct passing rate for SPM 2016

MARUDI: SMK Tinjar in Long Lapok, Baram scored 92.7 per cent passing rate in last year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM) examinatio­n to be among the top performing schools in the district.

The Average School Grade (GPS) achieved was 5.24, with 20 of 142 candidates scoring at least 3As.

The top- scorers are Sareen Cyntha Gerawat and Ewee Kar Teck – both attained 4As, 3Bs and 1D, Welleana Wellty William (4As, 1B, 3Cs, 1D), Linda Hendry Dayak (4As, 1B, 2Cs, 1D), Aaron Ding Devung Ding (4As) and Stanley Molly Jimbai (4As, 2Cs, 1D).

Those achieving 3As and 2Bs are Alex Kalang, Jacqueline Stephen Antai, Jennifer Lungan Jambai, Sherry Entira, Jeremiah Kerrie, Diana Dimong, Minggat Janting, Monalisa Monti, Petrus Morgan, Zila Uding Petrus, Elzie Zazahira Robin, Noriati Merang and Julia Ba’un Inong.

Meanwhile SMK Tinjar parents-teachers associatio­n ( PTA) chairman Tuai Rumah Juben Sigai, in congratula­ting the students, said he was happy with the good results, which were comparable with the achievemen­ts at most urban schools.

“I admit we cannot compete with the urban or elite schools but with commitment and hard work by both the students and teachers, we can produce excellent students who can be our future leaders,” he said when presenting certificat­es to the excellent students recently.

At the function, Juben presented the 3A scorers with RM50 cash incentive from the PTA fund.

Present at the event were SMK Tinjar principal Samri Suhaili and senior assistants Bawie Mamat, Juren Riwat and Peliman Gendang .
