25-year-old claims trial to rape

KUCHNG: A 25-year- old man charged with committing rape claimed trial in the Sessions Court here yesterday.

The accused, Murad Saree, who appeared before Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad, was denied bail and would be remanded in prison until the completion of the case.

The case was adjourned to April 7 for further mention.

He allegedly committed the offence on a 14-year- old girl, said to be his girlfriend, at a village in Lundu on April 15, 2013.

He is facing a charge under Section 376 ( 2)(d) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term up to 30 years and whipping.

DPP Haresh Prakash prosecuted while Murad was unrepresented.
