Families told to collect RM500 flood aid

-

KUCHING: The last batch of 124 families from Pending and Padungan areas affected by floods last year can collect their one- off RM500 compassionate aid at the Malaysia Civil Defence Department (JPAM) at Jalan Diplomatik here from today ( March 23).

Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Youth Central publicity secretary Milton Foo revealed that out of the total, 86 recipients were from Bintawa fishing village, Jalan Wan Alwi and Kuching areas under N10 Pending constituency.

“They can collect the flood assistance from JPAM office from 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm tomorrow (today),” he told a press conference at SUPP Pending branch here yesterday.

Recipients, who could not make it today, have seven days from March 23 to collect the flood assistance and should bring along their MyKad or identity document.

“They are the last batch of flood victims who are yet to receive the RM500 relief aid in 2016. SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian has persistently followed up on the matter and pressured the federal government for the aid,” he said.

Meanwhile, SUPP Youth chief Tan Kai said the delay could be due to a glitch in application.

“We need to follow the application procedure strictly to obtain the funds in time. Community leaders like Kapitan and village chief play an important role in this matter,” he said.

Elaborating, Tan emphasised that application forms for aid must be verified and stamped by community leaders before being submitted to relevant agencies or departments.

“The application form must be verified and acknowledged by community leaders, or be rejected. YBs (elected representatives) are not required to chop or sign the forms,” he explained.

Those in N11 Batu Lintang (320 families), N13 Batu Kitang (178 families) and N14 Batu Kawah (369 families) affected by floods this year will be receiving their RM500 compassionate aid next week.
