Drug seizures by Johor police worth RM11 mln incinerate­d

JOHOR BAHRU: Drugs seized by Johor police from 2003 to 2013 weighing a total of 267.5 kilogramme­s worth RM11 million were incinerate­d yesterday.

Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd assisted in the operation whereby the haul was brought to the Bukit Pelanduk plant in Negeri Sembilan to be destroyed.

“The seizures involved 3,537 cases. The courts had granted permission for the drugs to be disposed off,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

The haul consisted of heroin ( 2.1kg), cannabis ( 44.3kg), ketamine (10.3kg) amphetamin­e ( 33.1kg), methamphet­amine/ syabu ( 47.8kg), nimetazepa­m/ erimin 5 (45.2kg), codeine/cough mixture ( 21.8kg), cafein (43.5kg), mitragynin­e/ketum (14.4kg) and others ( 5 kg).

The cases involved arrests of 4,607 people, 4,487 of whom were locals, 102 foreigners while 18 were caught under the Dangerous Drugs ( preventive measures ) act. — Bernama
