Health ministry warns against Botox injection at health centres

-

THE HEALTH Ministry has warned beauty centres or salons against providing Botox injection services as the product was beyond their jurisdiction.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam said the beauty procedure had been classified by the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau as a type of medicine and its use must be handled by registered medical practitionerS who had been trained.

“The Botox injection premises were breaching regulations because any type of treatment in terms of medicine can only be provided at centres registered with the Health Ministry,” he said during the question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

He was replying to Khoo Soo Seang ( BN-Tebrau) who asked on the effective preventive measures to avoid registered beauty clinics from offering such services.

Dr Subramaniam explained that in terms of law, the beauty salons could only carry out beauty treatment on the outer skin or external bofy, however, Botox was a kind of product injected into the skin. — Bernama
