KOTA SAMARAHAN: All civil servants should equip themselves with digital knowledge to fit into the new era of information technology in the public service.

Deputy State Secretary ( Performance and Service Delivery Transformation) Datu Dr Sabariah Putit said this is in line with the vision of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg to enhance the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in the state such as in e- Government (e-Kerajaan) service.

“The Chief Minister (Abang Johari) is serious in developing the Internet facilities and has provided a huge budget to upgrade the Internet infrastructure and coverage throughout the state. With this, the Sarawak public service sector will be able to give world class service to the people,” she added.

and enhancing its public sector through strategic planning.

Sabariah was speaking to reporters during the Sarawak State Government in Service Training Award and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) Master of Science ( Counselling) New Cohort welcoming ceremony yesterday.

A total of 15 Sarawak civil servants from various divisions will be new cohorts of the university’s Master of Science (Counselling) course while some civil servants received their awards during the event which was held at the University House of the campus.

Those who attend the course will undergo a two-year ( six semesters) programme which is tailor-made by the university.

Sabariah hoped that the civil servants involved in the programme would make full use of their time while studying at the university.

“In my opinion, this course is very useful in the public sector. It teaches one to understand others to solve problems,” she said.

In his speech at the same event, Unimas vice- chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said he hoped to see the university form more strategic partnerships in the future to help the state government improve and enhance its public service sector.

“I would like to extend our utmost gratitude and appreciation to the Chief Minister’s Department which has planned and made this endeavour of academic journey a reality for the officers. We at Unimas will do our best so that such a move will be further enhanced and continued to realise the state government’s aspiration to further improve its officers and personnel,” he commented.

Among others present during the event was Unimas deputy vice- chancellor ( Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman.
