MARUDI: Baram police chief DSP Gabriel Risut welcomes all feedback from the public with regard to the performance and service delivery of the force, including complaints of misconduct by his men.

In this respect, he advises against the practice of spreading ‘ poison letters’ when it comes to highlighting grievances and issues concerning the police.

“Whether you have witnessed or listened about the misconduct by my men, come and talk to me about it. Trust me as your OCPD (district police chief).

“We, the police, are here to do good to all communities, regardless of race and religion. There is no discrimination – we don’t condone it,” he said at a gathering on Saturday night at Baram Civic Centre here, held to mark this year’s district-level 210th Police Day celebration.

Moreover, Gabriel said throughout his tenure as the district police chief for one year and seven months so far, he had been receiving great support and assistance from all communities, as well as those from various local government departments and agencies.

“I hope that such great working relationship would continue, in line with Police Day 2017’s theme ‘Polis dan Masyarakat – Berpisah Tiada’ ( Police and Society, Never Be Apart).”

Gabriel also commended his men for having performed admirably amidst many challenges last year.

“Overall, they had performed really well but many of their achievements were those done behind the scene.

“Every member of the force, including those manning the enquiries section and service counters, has important roles to play at the police station.

“For all of you here – keep up the great work,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cecelia Ngang claimed the crown of the ‘ Ratu Kebaya’ pageant – the highlight of the gathering that night.

Taking the respective first and second runner- up spots were Lina Wong and Veronica Sema. The pageant gathered eight contestants, parading their exquisite ‘ kebayas’ on stage and receiving loud cheer from the audience. The prizes were presented by Gabriel’s wife Magdeline Alap.
