SIBU: The Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) projects worth about RM6 million across Bawang Assan state constituency for last year have all reached completion.

This was disclosed by Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is the assemblyman, when met by reporters during his visits to the project sites yesterday.

Wong’s first stop was at 42- door Rumah Unjah, where he inspected the parking space for the longhouse residents.

It is learnt that the cost for this project was around RM103,000.

He then went to see the concrete parking area at Rumah Melina in Sungai Apong, which was constructed at the cost of RM281,909.

‘Now, they have more requests in view of the well- constructed roads coupled with improved standard of living. Many of them ( longhouse folk) have bought cars as well and they want carparks to be built everywhere – at almost at every longhouse.

“So now, you can see how the Barisan Naisonal ( BN) government has been bringing about development — not just in the urban areas but also the rural areas,” pointed out Wong, who is also United People’s Party ( UPP) president.

Wong then inspected the upgrading works on the roads at Rumah Joseph Jarrau and SK Tanjung Berkakap, as well as the completed carpark at Rumah Saing.

‘ Miring’ (seeking of blessings) ceremonies were also held at Rumah Melina and Rumah Joseph Jarrau.

Accompanying Wong were Sibu Public Works Department (JKR) technician Yong Sin Ho, local community leader Temenggong Stanley Geramong and UPP Bawang Assan Bumiputera Unit chairman Andrew Shilling Banggit.
