Anjung Singgah helps sacked dyslexic patient find new job

-

KUCHING: A dyslexic patient found a new job through the help of Anjung Singgah after he was fired from his old workplace.

Ranyie Kilau, 20, was working at a supermarket here until three days ago when Welfare Department (JKM) asked him to collect a letter. As a result, he was late to work, and the company fired him on the spot.

Having no place to go, a friend brought him to Anjung Singgah temporary shelter.

Yesterday Anjung Singgah helped Ranyie to get a new job at another supermarket and he had to move out from the shelter.

Because of that, Ranyie would have no food to eat and mattress to sleep on. As such, Anjung Singgah approached Hope Place Kuching, hoping that the non-governmental organisation could give him oneoff assistance.

Anjung Singgah also helped Ranyie to apply for a disabled (OKU) card from JKM.

Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan answered the call for help and handed over food items like rice, cooking, salt, sugar, biscuit, noodle and Milo, as well as a blanket and mattress to Ranyie.

Hope Place is an NGO that visits the poor and less fortunate families to contribute some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles.

Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month, hence they are grateful with the assistance of these basic necessities delivered to them. For families with children with special needs, or with elderly or disabled people, it provides milk powder, oat and diapers as well.

Hope Place carries out its aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on its recipients list. Currently it supports more than 170 families.

For more information on how to help, Hope Place can be reached at 013- 5672775 ( hot line) and 082– 683378 (office) from 8.30am to 12 noon and 2pm to 5pm on Mondays to Fridays and 9am to 12 noon on Saturdays. Direct bank-ins can be made to Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching at Maybank account 5112- 8900-1160.
