Raghad treats women NGOs to luncheon

KUCHING: More than 20 women associatio­ns and welfare organisati­ons were feted to a sumptuous luncheon hosted by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib at the Astana here yesterday.

The special occasion, which was held in conjunctio­n with the Women’s Day celebratio­n, celebrated and honoured women who had dedicated themselves to their local community by carrying out voluntary welfare and charitable works.

Raghad gave a pleasant surprise to the some 100 guests when she personally donated RM120,000 to 12 of the non- government­al organisati­ons ( NGOs) to assist them in organising their activities.

The 12 NGOs which received RM10,000 each were the Sarawak Single Mothers Associatio­n, Sarawak Women Prisons Department, Yayasan Kemajuan Insan Sarawak, Society of Kuching Urban Poor, Urusetia Saudara Kita, Hun Nam Siang T’ng, Sarawak Rurum Kelabit Women Associatio­n, Sarawak Bisaya Associatio­n Women’s Bureau, Home of Peace, Kuching Division Journalist­s Associatio­n ( KDJA), Sarawak Women Bidayuh Associatio­n, and Sarawak Indian Women Associatio­n.

Others present included Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg’s wife Datin Amar Datuk Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah’s wife Datin Amar Doreen Mayang Uggah, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing’s wife Puan Sri Datin Amar Corrine Masing, Second Resource Planning and Environmen­t Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan’s wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang’s wife Tan Sri Dato Sri Empiang Jabu, and State Legislativ­e Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar’s wife Datin Amar Datuk Fatimah Mohd Iskandar.
