The One Academy students shine at ‘The sCooler Awards’
KUCHING: The One Academy took home nine awards at the recent ‘ The sCooler Awards’ – an advertising award open to all Malaysian and international students studying at local institutions of higher learning.
The ‘sCoolers’ is Malaysia’s first creative industry advertising award dedicated as a platform that allows students to showcase their projects, have them accessed by awardwinning advertising and creative professionals and attend talks by advertising gurus.
The One Academy students were finalists for 10 categories and won the gold awards for ‘ Best Design’, ‘ Best Use of Celebrities’ and ‘ Best Publication’, silver award for ‘ Best Typography’, and bronze awards for ‘ Best Print’, ‘ Best Typography’, ‘ Best Ad That Looks Like Another Ad’ and ‘Best Photography’.
The One Academy’s advertising students Wong Kevin, Khor Eng Giap, Ngui Xin Ru and Ho Xin Ee worked as a team to conceptualise the ‘Frugie Pin’.
Based on their brilliant proposal, the object – a small, round button pin – incorporates the ‘chemiresistor’ technology that detects ethanol, which a substance usually present in early stages of food degeneration, and communicates this via a magnetic indicator.
The ‘ Frugie Pin’ idea was sparked by the team’s belief in innovation inspired by daily life.
Nicholas Siew Keat Jien was also honoured with a ‘ Best Publication’ gold award for his work ‘ The Haikyoist: An Urban Exploration’, while the advertising team of Lim Jo Ee, Chew Cheen Chun, Lim Yee Jin and Choo Yee Ting also received gold for their project ‘ Do You Notice a Mass Murderer?’
The One Academy founder and principal Tatsun Hoi expressed his pride in all the students.
“Although some of them are not from advertising and graphic design majors, they collaborate with students from other majors well and have achieved such an exemplary success.
“With their different strengths combined, they have created something valuable. We appreciate our students for flaming the competitive spirit in them, to test themselves in the marketplace and see where they stand. This is the spirit of The One Academy and what we usually teach through our ‘ Masters Train Masters’ philosophy,” he said in a statement.
As one of the major creative institutions in the country, The One Academy continues to nurture its students passionately through its ‘ Masters Train Masters’ coaching philosophy, which has been practised for the past 25 years, by providing diploma and degree courses namely Advertising and Graphic Design, Interior Architecture and Design, Digital Animation with Game Development, Multimedia Design with Digital Media and Interactive Design, Illustration, Movie and Game Art, Film Visual Effects, Fine Arts and ‘ESMOD’ Fashion Design and Pattern Making.
