MIRI: After three months of preparation, shooting of the much anticipated online Chinese movie ‘Blue Tears’ was finally completed on Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference, film director Zhu Dan said the next task is editing which would take about a month to complete and they expected the premiere to be sometime in May.

“We are happy that it progressed smoothly and we look forward to the editing. After that, the promotional works through internet will start in April before releasing the trailer whilst the movie is expected to premiere nationwide in China in May,” Zhu said.

Meanwhile, chairman of Global China Film ( Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Oliver Yong, said he too couldn’t wait for the completion of the 100minute movie.

“The objective of this movie is not only to promote the local tourism industry, we want this movie to be an inspiration to produce more online movies,” he said.

He added that the shooting of the film had given him an insight on how young the film industry in Sarawak was.

“The preparation alone took us so much time and was financially taxing. Due to lack of resources like filming equipment and lightings etc., we had to ship these equipment from Kuala Lumpur and this means we had exceeded 30 per cent of our initial budget,” he said.

At the feast which was organised to celebrate the wrapping-up of the film production on Sunday, Assistant Minister for Land and Air Transportation and Safety Datuk Lee Kim Shin congratulated the production team for their effort and hard work.

“Sarawak offers a natural studio for this film, which clearly is the main attraction for tourists and travellers to come and explore this country.

“We hope that this film will attract more people to come and see for themselves the beauty of our nature, which of course, could help boosts the tourism industry and local economy,” he said.

Blue Tears tells the tale of a young man Ling Fu Sheng, played by Sun Wei, who arrives on the shores of Miri and falls in love with a local girl Katrina.

However, Katrina’s parents vehemently object to their romance, causing the frustrated Ling to return to China and end up marrying someone else.

As the years go by, one day an ageing Ling, played by Ringo Yu, tells his grandson that he has never really forgotten his lovely Katrina.

This prompted Ling’s grandson to embark on a journey to Miri where he is determined to find Katrina – his grandfather’s first love.

History seems to repeat itself as Ling’s grandson, in his mission to find Katrina, meets a local girl whom he falls in love with eventually.
