60 take part in spelling bee contest

KUCHING: A total of 60 Smart Reader Kids students took part in the Smart Reader Kids Spelling Bee Contest at Boulevard Shopping Mall here and MYY Mall in Miri recently.

The spelling bee is a spelling competitio­n in which contestant­s are asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty.

Smart Reader Kids conducted the contest as a fun way to test and challenge children’s knowledge in terms of spelling, words and vocabulary in the English language.

In Kuching, the contest was divided into two categories: Category A, for 5-year- old children and Category B, for 6year- old children.

Evan Chong from Smart Reader Kids (Jalan Stapok Selatan) was the champion in Category A, while Sean Alan Arthur from Smart Reader Kids (Jalan Keretapi) and Muhd Danial Chu from Smart Reader Kids ( Uni Garden, Kota Samarahan) were announced as the first and second runners-up respective­ly.

Meanwhile in Category B, first place went to Athyrah Jasmyne from Smart Reader Kids (Jalan Keretapi). Second to third places respective­ly went to M Lekshita from Smart Reader Kids (Jalan Song) and Evan Chang Jie from Smart Reader Kids (Tabuan Jaya Baru 2).

Nine Smart Reader Kids centres in Kuching participat­ed in the Spelling Bee Contest.

The centres were Smart Reader Kids ( Tabuan Jaya Baru 2), Smart Reader Kids ( Uni Garden, Kota Samarahan), Smart Reader Kids (Jalan Song), Smart Reader Kids (Chong Hin Garden 1 and 2), Smart Reader Kids ( Taman Yen Yen), Smart Reader Kids (Jalan Rubber Barat), Smart Reader Kids (Jalan Stapok Selatan) and Smart Reader Kids (Jalan Keretapi).

In Miri, first place in the 6-yearold kids’ category went to Nigella Julan. Second and third place were won by Jayden Lawing and Gladys Bethany respective­ly. All of participan­ts were from Smart Reader Kids ( Desa Pujut 2), Miri.

“We strongly encourage our students to take part in various activities to extend their academic learning beyond merely a theoretica­l basis. These activities assist the developmen­t of practical skills, such as enhancing students’ confidence and empowering students to develop resilient spelling skills,” said principal Lorna Assim of Smart Reader Kids ( Desa Pujut 2), Miri.

In addition, Aim Smart Academics Sdn Bhd organises a variety of activities, one of which is the Amazing Smart Reader Kids event. The event aims to discover the hidden talents of children, encouragin­g them to express themselves in creative ways. Among the various inventive performanc­es by the children include story- telling, poem recitals and dances.

“This event is a good opportunit­y and brilliant platform for Smart Reader Kids students to explore their imaginatio­n and as well as build up their confidence levels,” said Norma John, business developmen­t and operation manager of Smart Reader Worldwide in East Malaysia.
