Perak first state to place MACC officer in MB’s Office

-

IPOH: Perak is the first state in the country that has placed a Certified Integrity Officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission ( MACC) in its Menteri Besar’s ( MB) Office in a bid to prevent abuse of power.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the officer had been stationed in his office since 2010 without being known by many quarters.

“We have never informed the media about this before, but we think it is appropriate to announce it yesterday to ensure a smooth running of state affairs, in addition to maintaining good relations with the MACC,” he said.

Zambry said this to reporters after the signing of Corruption-Free Pledge (CFP) by the state executive council members here yesterday.

The menteri besar said the presence of the MACC officer could overcome various problems especially when it involved the name of the state government.

Meanwhile, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad praised the efforts and commitment by the Perak government in ensuring that the management and administration of the state was free from corruption.

“We hope to maintain such a cooperation and that the state government will continue to adhere to the laws,” he said.

For the record, Perak is the sixth state government to have signed the CFP after Sarawak, Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Perlis. — Bernama
