‘Holistic balance vital for graduates’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Graduates must be equipped with a holistic balance of academics and entrepreneurial skills to secure jobs and build a career in the challenging job market.

Higher Education deputy minister Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching said this was beneficial for future graduates, whereby students would not only be equipped with the academics but be prepared for the job market through work-based learning.

“This is why we have our integrated cumulative grade point average (iCGPA) which have produced students with a high set of various skills and knowledge deemed fit for entrepreneurship.

“In terms of higher education, we have a two-year fully theoretical programme and work based training to prepare and equip our students for the job market,” she told the media after the closing ceremony of the 21st Malaysian Education Summit 2017 here yesterday.

Yap also called on those condemning the higher education system to note that the country’s education system was improving.

“I would suggest those who have condemned our education system to also look at our booklet on our education blueprint ( Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025) which had documented successful stories,” she added.

The two- day education summit which ended today brought together policy makers and practitioners from government agencies and education sectors to address key challenges facing the country’s education sector. — Bernama
