Four men nabbed for stealing cable from warehouse

-

BINTULU: Police have intensified their efforts in the battle against cable theft with the arrest of four suspects aged 19 to 22 on Wednesday.

They were detained at the back of a budget hotel in the town centre around 1.45pm.

A police team on routine patrol of the area spotted a suspiciouslooking vehicle and interrogated the men who confessed that they had stolen cables from a warehouse in Kidurong Industrial Estate.

Earlier, a police report was made over the theft of a five-metre cable worth RM2,500 from the warehouse.

Bintulu police chief Superintendent Zailanni Amit yesterday said the detainees were the same suspects captured on closed- circuit television (CCTV) attempting to steal a vehicle. The video went viral on social media. The CCTV was installed in a house.

Zailanni said a receipt for purchase for copper from Mega Progain Sdn Bhd, a Toyota Vios (registration plate no. QTH5821) and a car key were confiscated from the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
