Teacher accused of molesting pupil awaits ruling

KUCHING: A magistrates’ court here yesterday adjourned to April 11 ruling on the case of a teacher accused of molesting his pupil.

Magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman made the decision on Ahamit Umping, who was released on extended bail, after the prosecution closed its case.

Ahamit has maintained his innocence on the charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years.

He allegedly outraged the modesty of an 11-year- old pupil in the teacher’s room around 10pm on Feb 18 last year.

He was represented by lawyer Abdul Rahman Mohd Hazmi while Inspector Hisyam Junaidi prosecuted.
