Teras Krian wants Mawan to defend Saratok as BN candidate

-

KUCHING: Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak ( Teras) Krian division on Friday resolved in their annual general meeting (AGM) that Saratok MP Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom be re-nominated to defend the constituency as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the coming parliamentary election.

In a press statement yesterday, its chairman Banyi Beriak said the AGM was attended by all its members of more than 3,000.

“Teras acknowledges that YB Tan Sri William Mawan has brought tremendous development to Saratok and needs more time for him to implement some more of his plans and vision. Teras Krian has high regards and respect for him ( Mawan) because he was Teras president and though he has left the party out of technicality he has been very active and approachable,” said Banyi, who is also Teras deputy secretary- general and executive secretary.

Banyi pointed out that Mawan had been regarded as the best performing MP from Sarawak.

He also described his division as “…very much alive and kicking”.

“Very soon a new line-up (of the division) will be chosen (elected),” he said.

Among those attending the AGM were secretary Sudok Mesa, treasurer Albert Rengian and other office bearers and members like Tuai Rumah Julius Enggan, Gelungan, Dennis, Jemat, Tuai Rumah Jantai, Terang Langi, Tuai Rumah Majang, Mula, Rambey, Tuai Rumah Juing, Tuai Rumah Jimbat, Tuai Rumah Bama, Adam Saoh, Tuai Rumah Majid, Gundi and Munju, the statement said.

Banyi’s statement came right after three personalities – Dr James Chella, Basil Thomas and Subeng Mula – had lobbied to be the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party ( SPDP) candidate for the Saratok constituency in the coming parliamentary election.

SPDP is a BN component party while Teras is a BN-friendly party. Mawan is the only BN Member of Parliament in Malaysia without a party.

He became party-less after he quit Teras in order to become a direct BN candidate in Pakan during the May 7, 2016 state election in which he was victorious.

However, it is an open secret that Mawan and SPDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing have met and agreed last year on a ‘unification process’ involving members of SPDP and Teras.
