Farewell do for outgoing Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis

Miri division which covers huge rural areas including my constituen­cy of Telang Usan is actually a tough division to manage but with the superb and brilliant leadership of Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis plus support from state and federal government­s and all in the division, we have seen various improvemen­ts take place in all districts in the division.

MIRI: The second largest division in the state after Kapit Division, Miri Division covers huge rural areas.

Apart from being the administra­tive centre for Miri District, the division served four districts in the rural areas namely Marudi, Subis, Beluru and Telang Usan.

“Miri division which covers huge rural areas including my constituen­cy of Telang Usan is actually a tough division to manage but with the superb and brilliant leadership of Miri Resident Antonio Kahti Galis plus support from state and federal government­s and all in the division, we have seen various improvemen­ts take place in all districts in the division,” Dennis said.

Telang Usan assemblyma­n Dennis Ngau revealed this at a farewell dinner for Antonio at a leading hotel here on Wednesday.

The farewell do was organised by Miri Resident and Miri District Office for Antonio who will be taking up a new appointmen­t as director of administra­tion in the Office of the Chief Minister in Kuching next month.

On Antonio’s contributi­ons, Dennis said one proof of his achievemen­t was the setting up of three new districts: Telang

Usan, Bakong and Subis under Miri Division.

He asked all staff in the division to support the new Resident who has bags of experience and new ideas to continue Antonio’s good work.

“I fi rmly believe we can achieve more progress for all in the division.”

Dennis said Antonio had performed as a civil servant of the highest calibre since becoming a staff of Miri Municipal Council ( MMC) until his last post as secretary to Miri City Council (MCC), then as Miri Resident from 2010 to 2017.

He described Antonio as a man who is totally committed, and a detailed worker.

“I knew him personally since his time as secretary of MCC when I was a councillor. Antonio is a man of few words but very effective and efficient in what he does. He delivers all that is required of him.

“He has been very active with the associatio­n, especially with his own Bisaya community and currently taking responsibi­lity as president of Federation of Orang Ulu Associatio­n Miri Sarawak (Forum). With all that he has done for his community, I believe he is considered their blue- eyed boy.”

Antonio who also spoke thanked all staff, the Resident and District Office Miri division including those of Marudi, Telang Usan, Bakong and Subis who had given their cooperatio­n since he became Miri Resident in 2010.

He said many state and federal level events held in Miri City over the years were successful due to the support, commitment and team effort from everyone connected with the Miri Resident’s Office.

Present were Miri Deputy Resident Nyurak Keti, Miri District Officer Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf, district officers, community heads and heads of various government department­s.
