-

THE DEWAN Rakyat yesterday passed three bills, namely the Courts (Modes of Commencement of Civil Actions) Bill 2016, Judges’ Remuneration (Amendment) Bill 2017, and the Weights and Measures (Amendment) Bill 2017.

The Courts ( Modes of Commencement of Civil Actions) Bill 2016 is aimed at standardising the commencement of civil proceedings including for on-going and backlogged cases.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim said after the new law takes effect, all civil proceedings in court under any laws would be standardised through the use of the Originating Summons or Writ, except in cases when the Act or Ordinance provides exemption.

Meanwhile, the Judges’ Remuneration (Amendment) Bill 2017 is aimed at amending the Judges’ Remuneration Act 1971 (Act 45), while the Weights and Measures (Amendment) Bill 2017 aims at preventing misappropriation and manipulation of the process of weights and measures in business, Razali said when winding-up the debate on the bills earlier. — Bernama
