EU, African Union, OIC agree to send observers to monitor Algeria’s elections
ALGIERS: Responding to requests by Algeria, the European Union ( EU), the African Union (AU) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have agreed to send election observers to Algeria to monitor this country’s May 4 legislative elections.
The chairman of the High Independent Authority for Election Monitoring ( HIISE), Abdelouahab Derbal, said in a statement here Wednesday that Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co- operation Ramtane Lamamra had sent on behalf of Algeria an invitation to the EU for the despatch of observers for the forthcoming legislative elections and the EU had agreed to do so. — Bernama
