Establish good relations with local community, GOF men reminded

-

LIMBANG: Members of the General Operations Force (GOF) here have been reminded to uphold the very essence of this year’s theme for the 210th Police Day celebration – ‘ Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada’ ( Police and Society Never Be Apart).

According to Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang, one of the ways for the force to be closer to local citizens is through community projects such as ‘gotong-royong’ (work party).

“The key responsibility ( of the GOF) is to maintain peace and order as well as to uphold law enforcement. However, the engagement with the local community is no less important.

“The ‘gotong-royong’ to clean the Catholic Cemetery at Kampung Bakol, held coincidentally as the 210th Police Day, shows that members of GOF Limbang are committed in going to the ground and working hand-in-hand with the community here,” he said at the recent activity participated by GOF 12th Battalion Company C Commander ASP Paul Paren Ibau, St Edmund Parish priest Fr Sylvester Ding Ibau and Kampung Bakol Catholic Cemetery Committee chairman Anthony Runggah.

Paulus encouraged members of the GOF and the local community to not only conduct more such activities, but work with one another in fighting crimes.

ASP Paul said the key objective of the programme was to promote rapport and unity between police and the community.

He added that it followed the first ‘gotong-royong’ between GOF Limbang and local community held at Kampung Ulak cemetery last year.

Later, Paulus announced a RM5,000 government grant for GOF Limbang Association.
