KUCHING: A total of 29 community-based rehabilitation centres ( PDK) in the state have received four-star accreditation.

This rating is important in our quest to provide quality service to the PDK clients. We are so far happy with the number of PDK with four-star ratings in the state. Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Minister

Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said all 51 PDK statewide were assessed for the rating.

“This rating is important in our quest to provide quality service to the PDK clients.

“We are so far happy with the number of PDK with fourstar ratings in the state,” she said during the closing of the Disabled Child Early Intervention Seminar with Southern Zone PDK workers yesterday.

She said providing holistic and quality service covers the programme, literacy, skills and social skills.

“This is why workers of the PDK need to try and achieve the standard while at the same time having good relations with agencies such as the Welfare Department and Health Department.

“We are still looking for those with speciality in speech therapy and several others which have yet to be filled,” she said, adding there are vacancies at all 51 PDK in the state, which serve 5,038 children.

Fatimah said the government wants to formulate short- and long-term solutions to ensure the children will grow up to be independent and able to earn a living.

The children in PDK have disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, dyslexia and hearing problems.

A total of 58 PDK workers from Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman and Betong participated in the seminar, which aimed to improve skills and service delivery.
