SUPP Youth chief praises Najib for not tabling Act 355 amendment bill

-

SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Youth chief Joseph Chieng yesterday praised Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Rasak for announcing that Barisan Nasional (BN) would not table the amendment bill on Act 355.

In a press statement yesterday, Chieng said Najib had listened to the voice of the majority within the BN and respected the views of the members, the spirit of BN prevailing.

He said such an amendment would go against the country’s constitution, and Sarawak BN opposed it.

He said PAS had never given up on it and DAP, which partnered PAS in the Selangor State Government, had not been successful in preventing the Islamic party from practising such an ideology.

“When the right to religious freedom is being threatened by PAS’ action, the people should not be misled when Sarawak DAP sought to cut ties with PAS. In reality, the two are glued together in the Selangor State Government.”

He said to protect our rights and the preservation of religious freedom, the people should not let the secret pact of the two parties impact Sarawak.

Since they are partners, throwing support behind peninsula-based DAP equals supporting PAS.

“I call on the people to support Sarawak-based parties because we are the ones who decide on what our rights are.”

He said SUPP’s stand on the amendment of Act 355 was clear: “We oppose it from the beginning but PAS indicated they will continue with the tabling.

“I call on the people and the component parties of Sarawak BN to protect our rights vested in our constitution. Oppose the amendment of Act 355 until the end.”
