36 Storm members undergo enhancement training course

-

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) recently held an enhancement training course for members of its Special Tactical Operation Rescue Malaysia (Storm) team.

All 36 Storm members in the state attended the training course conducted by fire officer Rorudi Umas and assistant fire officer Suna Kaha on the peak of Gunung Bung Orad in Bau from March 27 to 31.

Suna who is also Sarikei Bomba chief, said that the training was aimed at enhancing Storm members’ skills and knowledge in line with the department’s aspiration to emerge as a worldclass organisation.

The training would give Storm members confidence to face reallife situations especially when carrying out rescue operations on rough terrain, high-rising hill slopes and in deep ravines, he said, adding the 450-feet high Bung Orad was a perfect venue for such training.

Among the techniques imparted to Storm members were hauling up victims from deep ravines, lowering victims from hill slopes, and operating high-level and vertical rescue systems, he disclosed.

He expressed confidence that with regular training and exposure to real-life situations, Storm members would be able to play a leading role in bigscale rescue operations such as collapsed buildings, airplane crashes, floods and other natural disasters.

Storm which comprises members from the water rescue unit (scuba), Emergency Medical Rescue Services ( EMRS), and Hazardous Material ( Hazamat) could be considered as a versatile team, he added.
