SIBU: The massive dumping of chicken wings at Quarry Road in Bukit Aup tantamounts to illegal dumping, says Assistant Minister for Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil. He said the council can take necessary action against those responsible.

“I mean anybody who comes across this kind of activity must report it to the relevant authorities like the council and even the police if they are suspicious of something not quite right,” he said when contacted yesterday

Penguang was asked to comment on the media report on the dumping of chicken wings, which drew villagers to the site to dig out the chicken parts.

He said Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee had rightly pointed out that the source and quality of the chicken wings were unknown, hence not fit for consumption.

“Locals should not jump onto the band wagon and pick the chicken wings and consume them. You never know what the reason is behind the dumping. It they are dumped there for health reasons the people should not consume them,” the Marudi assemblyman said. But whatever it was, he said the matter had to be investigated as to who dumped them there and for what reason.

Meanwhile, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said it was unthinkable that this sort of thing was happening in our country.

“We should be more civilised in the way we treat raw food to be served or sold to others. To bury raw food material like this is certainly not the behaviour of a civilised people,” he said.

Wan Junaidi, who is Santubong MP added: “It’s the work of unscrupulous people. I am not sure whether there is a law against this kind of activities. If there is, the people involved must face the full rigour of the law.

“And if there is no law against it, then a law ought to be created to punish this kind of people.”

I mean anybody who comes across this kind of activity must report it to the relevant authorities like the council and even the police if they are suspicious of something not quite right. Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, Assistant Minister for Local Government
