SRDC chief wants to get to bottom of chicken wings dumping issue

-

SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai wants the probe into the dumping of chicken wings at a site along Quarry Road near Bukit Aup here to be concluded as soon as possible to find out who were responsible for it.

“We will let Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee lead the investigation. On SRDC’s part, we’ll do what is required of us. We will call Royal Customs Department to verify whether they are aware of it, then we need to identify the company responsible,” he told reporters at a press conference here yesterday.

He said if the chicken wings were disposed of because of contamination, then there is greater urgency to resolve the problem.

According to news report, the Royal Customs Department here had clarified that the chicken wings had nothing to do with them following rumour that Customs personnel were the ones dumping the chicken parts there.

Yesterday, the department said they could not give any comment as the authority to issue press statements lies with its state director.

“There must be a reason for the dumping,” Sempurai stressed.

He further said SRDC would need to find out the status of the land where the chicken wings were dumped and why they were disposed of there.

“We hope to get feedback as soon as possible and we also want to make sure that those still keeping the chicken wings discard them,” he said.

Saying the matter involved agencies like the Health Department, Sibu Municipal Council ( SMC) and the Police, he feared the incident would cause adverse impact on chicken vendors. He disclosed that SRDC had received directive from Sibu Resident for its health officers to inspect the site.

“We’ll identify which longhouses or kampongs were involved in the digging of the chicken wings. We’ll convince them to dispose of the chicken wings,” he said.
