‘Know source of your raw chicken wings’

-

SIBU: Consumers and food traders here are advised to know the source of raw chicken wings they are buying, be it for their own consumption or for sale.

Divisional Health officer Dr Muhammad Rais Abdullah also advised consumers and food traders to be responsible and be aware of the source of items before buying them.

“This is important to ensure cleanliness and to ensure the food is safe for consumption. Consumers should be meticulous and cautious as well as not taking it lightly when choosing chicken meat,” he said in a press statement received here yesterday.

“Raw chicken meat should be fleshy with elastic meat texture, not slimy, does not change colour like bluish or greenish, does not stink and the skin looks fresh.

“Be a smart consumer and do not be enticed by the ( low) price. Be sure to purchase raw chicken wings from legitimate suppliers and undoubted source for clean and safe consumption,” he said.

Dozens of villagers literally dug up chicken wings from an area near Bukit Aup on Tuesday. The chicken wings were allegedly buried there after the owner failed to pay the customs tax.

It is believed that the villagers came to know about the chicken wings buried a few feet in the ground since last Friday.

There are rumours that the chicken wings are being resold by individuals in a few places here as low as RM6 to RM7 per kilogramme.
