Pageant winners drawn to Sibu’s charms

SIBU: Malaysia’s representative to Mister World 2016 Yusuf Tony and Mister Universal Ambassador Malaysia 2016 Jason Ganesan have one thing in common – they have gravitated to the charms of Sibu during their short stay here.

Yusuf first arrived here on Feb 4 to attend a ‘ Bachelor of Malaysia-The Pageant 2017’ event at a hotel here.

He said the recent ‘ Bachelor of Malaysia-The Pageant 2017’ grand finale on April 1 marked his second trip to Sibu, and the hospitality of Sibu people he enjoyed during his first trip was still felt.

His favourite Sibu food is halal kampua mee prepared by Muslim friends.

“Kampua looks simple with a smattering of dressing, but it tastes fantastic,” he said.

According to him, this town is generally clean. “I’ll bring my family here the next time I come to Sibu,” he said.

Jason, on the other hand, said he felt like a VIP in Sibu because of the warmth and hospitality of its people.

“Like Yusuf, I too like the kampua,” he said.

Jason, who has been staying in Bintulu for almost four years, said he had been told Sibu was a town of gangsters and that it was a dead town when dusk sets in.

“These were proven wrong after I spent some time here,” he said, adding that Sibu is an ideal place to while away leisure time.

“Frankly, Sibu is like my hometown Sandakan in terms of food price, the town layout and its environment.

“Hence, I feel at home in Sibu,” he said.
