Families appeal to authorities to look for duo missing in Jakarta

-

KUALA LANGAT: The families of two Malaysians who are reported missing in Jakarta, Indonesia since March 30 ( Thursday) are appealing to the Malaysian and Indonesian authorities to initiate effort to find them as quickly as possible.

Kamarol Arifin Mohamad Darus, 27, and Mohd Shafa Ahmad, 29, were reportedly last seen when boarding an Air Asia aircraft for Jakarta at the KL International Airport 2 ( klia2) at 2 pm on March 30, in Sepang.

Kamarol Arifin’s mother Hamidah Kordi, 65, said he had never failed to inform the family as to his whereabout and was worried in case they were facing ‘something bad’.

“My son and his friend were scheduled to return from Jakarta on Sunday night but they never did.. I am worried, who knows if they are in trouble because it has never been like this (not revealing their destination),” she told reporters when met here yesterday.

According to Hamidah, before departing for Jakarta to attend a concert, Kamarol Arifin and his friend were in very high spirit and were impatient to step foot for the first time in Indonesia.

Kamarol Arifin, a messenger and his friend, Mohd Shafa, a technician in Klang planned to go to Jakarta with six others but the duo had to fly two hours earlier because tickets were sold out when they booked in February.

However, their six friends failed to meet Kamarol Arifin and Mohd Shafa in Jakarta, and the latter also failed to check in where they were supposed to be staying.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shafa’s sister, Darwina Ahmad, 32, said the two families had lodged reports with the police, Wisma Putra and the Malaysian Immigration Department on Monday when they failed to return as scheduled.

She said her brother had experience travelling abroad including in the line of work and should not have encountered difficulties visiting Indonesia.

“Reports have been made. If they still cannot be detected, we plan to go to Jakarta to look for them both,” she added. — Bernama
