LIMBANG: Sarawak has come up with action plans in order to progress in tandem with Peninsular Malaysia.

According to Assistant Minister for Welfare and Community Wellbeing Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, the action plans are in line with the leadership policy of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg who wanted Sarawak to be the most developed and richest state in Malaysia by 2030.

Thus, he said three cabinet committees were set up namely Socio-Economic Transformation Programme ( SETP), Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) and Performance and Service Delivery Transformation which are chaired by deputy chief ministers.

“The state government is carrying out various efforts so that Sarawak can develop at par with Peninsular Malaysia and is allocating funds and make plans from now until 2030 so that Sarawak could achieve its target of becoming the most developed and richest state in the country by 2030,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman made the remarks on Thursday night at the Sarawak Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) Enhancement Programme, 2017 being held here.

Also present were Hamidah Halpi who represented Limbang Resident, director and deputy director of the State Security Unit, Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Chai Khin Chung and Datuk Clarence Rorote Sagon respectively, Limbang Unity officer Mohd Fakri Asmad and chief of Limbang District Community, Security and Crime Prevention

Dr Abdul Rahman added that Sarawak was 15 years behind in development compared to Peninsular Malaysia, although it had jointly formed Malaysia with Sabah and Malaya in 1963.

“Sarawak still badly needs more development so that the state can be at par with Peninsular Malaysia and the state government is committed to ensure that the state will not continue to lag behind,” he said.

The Bukit Kota assemblyman said Abang Johari also prioritised policy on development of telecommunication and Information technology.

To achieve such goal, he said Sarawak targeted to build 5,000 telecommunication towers throughout the state.

At the same time, he said the state government wanted to make sure that its people feel safe.

“Before, security aspects were shouldered by the security forces but now the people collaborated in ensuring that their respective areas are safe,” adding that the government wanted to get the community to be active in security matters especially through the setting up of KRT and Voluntary Patrolling Scheme ( VPS)

Currently, he said there were 49 KRTs in the district including 38 in Bukit Kota, 15 ( Batu Danau) besides 19 VPS in Limbang, comprising 15 under Bukit Kota and four in Batu Danau.

He hoped that more VPS units could be set up in the district.
