Sebuyau to benefit from 27 RTP projects
SEBUYAU: Twenty-seven projects under the Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) will be implemented in Sebuyau this year.
Assistant Minister for Rural Economy ( Coastal Areas) and Fisheries Datuk Julaihi Narawi, said the projects worth RM5 million would benefit villages in the constituency. They included upgrading of infrastructures and construction of new ones.
On Thursday, Julaihi, together with senior officials from Public Works Department ( JKR), Drainage and Irrigation Department ( DID), Land and Survey Department from Samarahan and State Implementation and Monitoring Unit ( SIMU) in the Chief Minister’s Department visited the projects sites.
“For this year, a total of 27 RTP projects will be built here ( Sebuyau) and we have set up a Sebuyau RTP Committee to ensure that the projects are implemented and to receive feedback from the people,” the Sebuyau assemblyman told reporters after visiting all the projects sites.
Among the projects are a jetty, roads, building of hawkers’ centre and upgrading of community halls and suraus in the area.
Julaihi also told reporters that 37 RTP projects were built in the area last year, 13 projects in 2015 with a total cost of RM15 million including this year’s projects.
“This is the commitment of the government to bring transformation to the rural areas,” Julaihi, who is Assistant Minister for Industrial Development ( Investment and Promotion) said, adding that the RTP was initiated by the late Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
He said the projects in 2015 were all completed, while two of last year’s projects have not been completed due to technical problems with the contractors, stressing that the problems have been rectified.
Julaihi also pointed out the need for a coastal road to further develop coastal villages and towns, and hoped that the government would seriously consider the matter.
The construction of a coastal highway, which he said was a ‘ missing link’ would enable the idle lands to be developed for commercial use and for the farmers and fishermen to market their produce.
“We have Sematan, Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebangan, Meludam, Dalat, Mukah and Balingian and many villages which are located along the coastal belt, and the construction of coastal road will greatly benefit the people in these areas and bring great economic impact,” Julaihi said.
According to him, about 36 per cent of the state’s population are living in coastal areas and are strong supporters of Barisan Nasional ( BN) government, and should be rewarded with the construction of coastal road network.
Julaihi also pointed out that Sebuyau has developed tremendously over the past 20 years and urged the people in the area and other rural areas to prepare themselves and benefit from the government transformation programmes.
SIMU director Abdul Rahman Sebli Senusi, Sebuyau sub- district administrative officer Ajis Ahmad and Samarahan JKR divisional engineer Siti Fairuz were among those present.
