Health clinics told to monitor diarrhoea, vomiting cases

-

SIBU: All health clinics across this division have been instructed to monitor cases of diarrhoea and vomiting following the ‘chicken wings’ incident.

According to a statement from state Health Department, any increase or cluster in number of cases must be reported to the operations room of Sibu Division Health Office for further action.

“The Sibu Health officer ( Dr Muhammad Rais Abdul lah) has instructed health clinics to monitor cases of diarrhoea and vomiting,” it said yesterday.

The divisional Health Office, together with Sibu Municipal Council ( SMC) and Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC), had set up four teams to monitor the sale of chicken wings at the local markets.

The monitoring commenced on April 5.

“Enforcement action will be taken in accordance with the existing SOP (standard operating procedures).”

Meanwhile, Dr Rais in a recent statement advised consumers and traders here to identify the sources of the chicken wings before buying them.

His tips for buying fresh chicken are that the meat should be firm and elastic to the touch, not watery; there is no bluish or greenish tinge; the meat is not smelly; and the skin looks fresh.

Dozens of vil lagers dug up chicken wings buried near Bukit Aup area on Tuesday.

Earlier media reports quoted rumours circulating that the chicken wings were being resold by individuals at a few places here, for as low as RM6 to RM7 per kilogramme.
