-

SIBU: A total of 3,441 people from throughout Malaysia, Taiwan, and Singapore have signed up for the ‘ Love Run for Autism’ on April 30 at Sibu Town Square.

Volunteer Loh Yu Yee said 327 are joining the 10km run; 2,371 for the 5km run; and 743 for the 2km run.

She said over 60 of the registered runners are children with special needs.

Elated by the overwhelming response, Loh said their target was around 3,000.

“What’s more heart-warming is the fact that we have entries from outside Sibu, like Taiwan, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur,” she told a press conference yesterday.

Loh said participants may collect their T-shirts and numbers on April 15, 16, 22 and 23 at Delta Mall lobby.

She said on these four days, an exhibition of children’s drawings will be held at the same place.

On the run, she said runners in the 10km category will be f lagged off at 7am, followed by 5km category 15 minutes later and 2km category at 7.30am.

“We have about 300 volunteers, including those from Community Police, Rela and schools,” said Loh.

Apart from creating greater awareness of autism, the organisers are hoping to raise RM100,000 for the Sibu Autistic Association to defray part of the cost of its premises extension project.
