RM100 mln for Domino’s Pizza expansion plans

CYBERJAYA: Domino’s Pizza Malaysia has been allocated with RM100 million for its three-year plan which includes expansion to Sabah and Sarawak by next year in its aim to become Malaysia’s leading pizza outlet 2020.

Domino’s Pizza Malaysia & Singapore executive chairman Datuk George Ting said the company was looking to open about 100 new stores by end-2019.

“We estimate that each store will cost about RM500,000, depending on its size,” Ting told a media conference after the opening of its 200th store in Malaysia and 14,000th store worldwide here yesterday.

Ting said the remaining of the allotted sum would be used for technology enhancemen­t and that the company intended to open 38 new stores this year. “Malaysia holds vast potential and we are confident that the local pizza market will continue to mature and expand,” he added.

Malaysia, leading the market in Southeast Asia, was also the fifth largest in Asia Pacific for Domino’s Pizza Internatio­nal, he said.

Ting said Domino’s Pizza in Malaysia had recorded solid growth in the past few years, especially with the opening of its 50th store in January 2011, 100th store in December 2012, 150th store in March 2016 and now 200th store in April 2017.

He said since the introducti­on of its online ordering platform in 2003, the company has also seen a steady 60 per cent growth in online sales from RM39 million in 2015 to RM63 million in 2016.
