MELAKA: Police have found two bodies believed to be that of the fishermen who went missing while catching fish near Kesang Laut in Johor yesterday.

Tangkak District Police chief Supt Mohad Idris Samsuri said the police had yet to identify the two bodies.

“The first body was found within 3.5 nautical miles from Parit Kassim, Muar by a marine police boat at 5.20pm and arrived at Muar marine police jetty at 6.45pm,” he said when contacted by Bernama here yesterday.

Mohad Idris said that the second body was found by the Fire and Rescue team at 6.00pm and taken to the Muar marine police jetty at 7.10pm.

The body was found 10 nautical miles from the Pengkalan Nelayan Kesang Laut jetty.

He said the two bodies were found intact and had been sent to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital, Muar.

“We will call the victims’ family members to identify the bodies as soon as possible,” he said.

Earlier, the SAR team detected the mobile phone signal from one of the men. Mohad Idris said the signal was detected from the mobile phone of Johari Abu Bakar, 46, in the waters off Merlimau in Melaka at 10.30pm the same day.

“This finding somehow gives a new lead to the SAR team to narrow down the search area,” he told reporters.

Prior to this, the team found another mobile phone signal in the waters between Kuala Sebatu in Merlimau and Sungai Kesang here.
