Church’s cleaning service helps

-

MIRI: Tudan Methodist Church is introducing its ‘Cleaning Service’ project to help the locals by offering jobs for them to improve their livelihood.

According to the project’s working committee chairman Wong Kung Kui, the programme – to be fully operational next month – will provide scheduled or occasional cleaning services to homes and offices in and around the city.

“The programme is basically our latest project to help those who are jobless. They may have only basic skills but as long as they are willing to go the extra mile to learn and work hard, they will have a decent income from the cleaning jobs,” said Wong.

Expressing his concern over less-educated native women, Wong said the cleaning service project would give priority to them.

“We notice that this group of people have difficulties in looking for jobs that could pay the bills, not to mention putting better food on the table. Hence, we are anticipating that this programme would be able to improve their lives.

“More importantly, we hope that this could be an opportunity for them to rebuild their confidence and provide for their families better,” he said.

At the moment, the service team has five full-time female workers who would be despatched to the scheduled locations for their daily work.

“This is just the beginning. We also have plans to arrange training courses for these workers to improve their skills so that their services would be up to the client’s expectations.”

Wong disclosed that the pilot project kicked off early this year, before Chinese New Year.

“The spring festival was the peak season for the cleaning service, when it was in demand. So far, the clients are all happy with the service provided by our team – some have even booked long-term cleaning contracts, which are very encouraging for the workers.”

The cleaning service is available Mondays to Fridays, from 8am to 5pm (eight hours).

Interested clients are encouraged to pre-book the services by contacting person-in-charge Santi David at 013-8139984.
