‘Acknowledge contributions of S’wak Rangers veterans’
KUCHING: Appreciation and recognition should be given to Sarawak Rangers veterans for their contribution and the role they played in defending the state’s and country’s peace.
Yang di- Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who made this suggestion, said the veterans faced various threats before Independence, and in fact, not many associations or units have a long history and played a great role in defending the state’s and country’s sovereignty.
“Sarawak Rangers veterans and members need to feel proud with themselves because they are part of those who fought for the nation’s peace. This is why I feel the unit and the Sarawak Rangers Veterans Association ( SRVA) should be supported so that they know that their contributions are always remembered,” he said at the SRVA and Sarawak Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association ( PVTMS) ‘Jasamu DiKenang’ dinner on Sunday to mark 150 years of the formation of Sarawak Rangers.
As a show of support, Taib presented RM50,000 to the association.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said he would forward the association’s request for a piece of land from the state government to Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg for consideration.
He said the request had been forwarded by the late chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem but no reply had been received from the state government.
