KUCHING: Jobseekers across the state are invited to the 1Malaysia Training Scheme ( Skim Latihan 1Malaysia or SL1M) open interview programme to be held at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) from April 19 to 20.

Organised by the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department, SL1M aims to provide opportunities for graduates to be more marketable for employment.

According to SL1M secretariat head Norashikin Ismail, more than 10,000 vacancies will be available for jobseekers to apply for and directly sit for an open interview session.

If accepted, the graduate will then be trained under the company for a certain period (maximum of 12 months) as a platform for them to undergo soft skills and on-thejob training, which will add to their marketable value.

“We are calling for giant companies to open their doors for Sarawakians to get a job or maybe start their own business,” Norashikin said when announcing the event at Unimas yesterday.

She revealed that it is very rare for large companies to entertain resumes that are sent to their doorsteps, making the SL1M event at Unimas a golden opportunity for jobseekers to land employment in these companies.

Among the participating companies, she disclosed, are Khazanah Nasional Bhd who will be offering around 4,000 vacancies in various sectors.

are CIMB, Maybank, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Celcom Axiata Bhd, Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd and Petronas.

“There will be no minimum qualifications and no age limit for the applicants,” Norashikin said, adding that the vacancies on offer would widely vary, from lorry drivers to executives.

“Malaysia is the only country in the world who is paying RM1,000 to RM1,500 in allowances for trainees. Instead of sitting at home and doing nothing, why not come and seek a job?” she added.

On another note, the two- day event will also see a mini showcase and motivational talk which will feature comedy trio ‘ Zero’ and local singer and composer Faizal Tahir.

Also present was Unimas Centre for Student Development dean Prof Dr Siti Raudzah Ghazali, who said they are grateful for the organising of the event on their campus. The ripple effect of the event, she added, should augur well for Unimas students, who would gain experience and learn the ropes on how to organise a large-scale event.

Meanwhile, companies who have accepted and sent candidates for training under SL1M are eligible for a tax reduction under the HRDF-SL1M incentive.
