Strive to attend ‘Leaders with People’ gatherings, community leaders advised

-

JULAU: Community leaders should make it a point to always avail themselves for gatherings conducted by government departments and agencies.

According to Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat, any ‘ Leaders with People’ gathering serves as an effective two-way communication channel between the people and the government.

In this regard, he said as an elected representative, he would make full use of this platform to gain feedback from the people, especially on their needs and problems.

“I’m pleased to note that many local community leaders understand their roles and strive to come to the gatherings that I have organised so far,” he said during a ‘ Leaders Meet People’ session at Rumah Anding Nanga Jemak in Entabai near here recently.

The event gave all 23 longhouse chiefs from across Meluan constituency the platform to voice out the needs and problems faced by their fellow villagers.

“We may be of different levels but for leaders, they should commit themselves to fully serve the people. Upon hearing your problems, I assure you that I would look into ways to address them accordingly,” Rolland said.

Later, the assemblyman performed the earth- breaking ceremony for the proposed construction of a 400m access road leading to the longhouse.

He believed that the project would be completed ‘ very soon’ as a contractor had agreed to render his assistance for free.

He also announced a Minor Rural Project ( MRP) grant of RM8,000 for Rumah Anding’s security and development committee (JKKK) and another RM2,000 for its women’s bureau.
