China Culture Art Fest 2017 kicks off in Miri today

MIRI: There will be a host of spectacula­r performanc­es by various cultural troupes from Malaysia and China at the fiveday China Culture Art Festival 2017, which kicks off at the civic centre here today.

The event, run by DH Media Sdn Bhd, is part of China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ programme, according to Assistant Minister for Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

“Over 10 local Chinese cultural organisati­ons will join performers from China in putting up an unforgetta­ble show in Miri,” he said after a meeting with the heads of different cultural organisati­ons at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Senadin servide centre in Permyjaya here recently.

Lee pointed out that the festival is aimed at enhancing the relationsh­ip between China and Malaysia, promoting the state’s entertainm­ent industry and its tourism attraction­s, as well as creating an exchange programme in arts and culture between both countries.

“The event will help draw in more crowds to Miri, who will then be looking at our latest developmen­ts. Apart from that, it ( festival) will also help in bringing more investors from China through the entertainm­ent industry, which will surely help boost the state’s economic growth,” he added.

The China Culture Art Festival 2017willfe­aturevario­usperformi­ng arts from China including crossgende­r performanc­se, ‘wuqiao’ acrobatics, ‘Monkey King’, ‘face-off opera’, ‘shaolin’ kungfu and ‘guan gong’ performanc­e.
