Sares gets much-deserved pat on the back from Mayor Chan

-

KUCHING: The Sarawak Amateur Radio Emergency Services Society (Sares) has been commended for its invaluable contribution in facilitating aid during times of emergency and natural disasters.

Kuching South Mayor Dato James Chan Khay Syn acknowledged the roles played by the non-profit organisation, one of which is educating the community on the proper procedures during disasters and how they can provide assistance to the victims in times of need.

“I commend Sares for their untiring efforts but at the same time, I also push for them to continue raising the awareness of disaster relief among members of the local community,” he said after receiving a courtesy call from Sares delegates, led by their president Joseph Siong Teck Cheun, at Kuching South City Hall (MBKS) recently.

The visit was meant to brief Chan on the objectives and development of the organisation, as well as to offer its services and expertise to the local council by providing training programmes related to emergency radio communications.

Sares is a voluntary body formed to render efficient and effective communication services during times of emergency and natural disasters.

Its volunteers are also involved in flood relief operations and simulation exercises alongside those from relevant government departments and agencies, as well as various non-governmental organisations.
